Our Grading Standards
At Brownlee Lumber Company, we are passionate about providing our customers with the highest quality products possible. Not only do our grades meet the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) hardwood grading rules, but we strive to exceed these standards to ensure that our products offer exceptional value.
Our Grading Practices
Our rigorous grading practices helps to ensure that each board meets the grade that it has been assigned. All lumber is inspected before and after kiln drying, and our inspectors grade from on top of the lumber, not grading from the side of the board where defects can be missed. We hire experienced and committed professionals who follow our standards and know how to do it right!
Our Grading Philosophy
Our grading staff is required to ensure that each board adequately meets the grade it has been assigned. All experienced hardwood professionals know, however, that there are often judgment calls that are made while grading. Our graders are encouraged to follow the motto: "When in doubt, choose the grade that maximizes value to the customer."
